Movement & EmbodimentWorkshop · Class / session·Helsingin Astanga Joogakoulu — Annankatu, lower studio, Helsinki

Beginner Ashtanga yoga with Meri Takkinen

Explore the foundations of Ashtanga through breathing, core engagement and a dynamic sequence of postures.

Why it caught our eye

The course gives beginners time to understand the foundations before moving into regular classes. Its focus on breathing alongside movement offers more to explore than learning the shapes of the postures alone.

About this experience

Begin with the building blocks of Ashtanga yoga in this introductory course with Meri Takkinen. Ashtanga links a sequence of postures with deep breathing and focused attention. You will explore how movement and breath work together, with guidance intended for people starting the practice.

What you can expect

Learn the principles and basic exercises of Ashtanga, including deep breathing and bandhas: the engagement of deep supporting muscles around the centre of the body. These are brought into moving posture sequences known as vinyasa. No previous yoga experience or particular fitness level is required.
