Ashtanga Refresher with Ursula Aaltonen
Return to the foundations of Ashtanga with a closer look at breathing, postures and philosophy in Helsinki.
Why it caught our eye
The course makes room to revisit familiar movements in more detail, linking the practical questions of breathing and body locks with the wider philosophy of Ashtanga.
About this experience
Come back to your Ashtanga practice with time to look more closely at its foundations. Ursula Aaltonen leads this refresher for people who have tried Ashtanga before or want to return after a break. The session connects practical work on postures and breath with the philosophy behind the practice.
What you can expect
Revisit sun salutations, standing balances, seated forward bends and hip-opening postures, then finish with restorative movements and relaxation. You explore how the breath supports practice and work with bandhas, the lower-abdominal, pelvic-floor and throat actions often called body locks. Technique exercises include push-ups and downward-facing dog, alongside a review of Ashtanga philosophy.
Good to know before you go
Previous experience of Ashtanga is expected; this is a refresher rather than a first introduction. The course takes place in the lower hall, reached through the courtyard at Annankatu 29B. Entry instructions and the door code arrive with your booking confirmation. A reduced rate is offered for eligible groups; check the school’s conditions when booking.
