Volunteer Mentor Information Session: Big Brothers Big Sisters
Explore what it means to mentor a young person in the Bay Area at a free, interactive online introduction.
Why it caught our eye
It makes a substantial volunteering commitment easier to understand before you apply, with time to learn about both the relationship and the matching process.
About this experience
A dependable friendship can start with a conversation about what you can offer. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area invites prospective volunteer mentors to an online information session. You will explore how its mentoring programmes work and what it means to show up consistently for a young person in your community.
What you can expect
Spend an hour learning about the programmes, volunteer requirements and the process of matching a mentor with a young person. The interactive session also introduces the need for mentors across the Bay Area, particularly Big Brothers around Antioch, Vallejo, Richmond, Oakland and Hayward. This is an introduction to volunteering; attending does not guarantee a mentoring placement.
Good to know before you go
The online information session is free. Registered participants receive the joining link and details by email one day beforehand. Prospective mentors must be 21 or older, have stable living circumstances and valid state-issued ID, and meet screening criteria. Mentoring involves at least a year and regular meetings; the application includes references, training, an interview and a background check with a processing fee. Review the organisation’s full criteria before applying.
