DRUM MEDICINE: Cacao and Sound for Women
Share cacao, choose an intention and listen to drum, voice and subtle sounds in a gathering for three women.
Why it caught our eye
Listening takes centre stage here: the changing rhythm gives way to quieter sounds, with time to rest before an optional closing exchange.
About this experience
Put down the drum and become the listener. At her home in Islington, Emma of Prism of Sound invites three women to share ceremonial cacao and lie down for a layered sound session. No drumming or meditation experience is needed.
What you can expect
The gathering opens with sage or palo santo smoke and an introduction to the Medicine Wheel, a framework Emma uses to reflect on cycles in nature and life. After setting an intention and sharing cacao, you lie down for drum, rattle and feather work, followed by voice, shruti box, ocean drum and chimes. Emma describes dowsing and feather work in terms of her energetic practice. Grounding touch is optional, and the closing conversation is yours to join or simply listen to.
Good to know before you go
Wear loose, comfortable clothes. Mattresses, bolsters, blankets and water are provided; warm socks and a journal are optional. The organiser recommends avoiding alcohol the evening before and on the day, recreational drugs for 48 hours, and a heavy meal beforehand. No refunds.
