Explore string instruments with Marie-Sophie von Düring
Listen, feel resonance and try unusual string instruments in a hands-on sound workshop with Marie-Sophie von Düring.
Why it caught our eye
You can move from hearing about these unusual instruments to feeling and playing them yourself. The instruments are supplied, and the workshop asks for curiosity rather than musical experience.
About this experience
How does a vibrating string become something you can feel as well as hear? Marie-Sophie von Düring invites you to explore that question through sound instruments from Klangwerkstatt Deutz. The workshop brings together an introduction to her work and time to discover the instruments for yourself.
What you can expect
Marie-Sophie shares examples of using sound in children’s hospice care, meditative sound journeys and intuitive singing. Afterwards you can try a sound bed, Körpertambura, sound wheel, lyre and bowed psaltery. The emphasis is on listening and direct experience, rather than learning a playing technique. A break is included.
Good to know before you go
No musical experience is needed. Instruments are provided, with a maximum of 30 participants. Register through percussion+m; your place is reserved once registration is confirmed. Check the organiser’s cancellation terms before booking.
