Why it caught our eye
The defined period of silence and spaced-out meditation sessions make room to explore the retreat’s theme slowly, with meals and a place to stay already arranged.
What you can expect
Dinner and an introduction open the retreat on Friday evening. Saturday has four teaching and meditation sessions, with two final sessions on Sunday morning. A period of silence runs from after Friday’s introduction until after the second Saturday session. There is also an invitation to keep some quiet between sessions and limit distractions. The residential programme includes accommodation and vegetarian or vegan meals.
Good to know before you go
Residential prices per person are CHF 190 in a four-person dormitory, CHF 240 in a double room, CHF 280 in a main-building single, CHF 290 in a temple single with shared bathroom or CHF 320 with private bathroom. Course-only attendance is CHF 100 and excludes accommodation. Register each person online and pay a CHF 100 deposit; the balance is invoiced and normally due within ten days, or before arrival for late bookings. No payment is taken on site. The deposit is refundable until one week before the retreat, with limited illness or bereavement exceptions afterward. Benefactor members should confirm their final rate when booking. Bring warm clothing, suitable outdoor shoes, indoor shoes and a towel; bed linen is provided. There is no Wi-Fi in the building. Ask the organiser about the teaching language and any accessible-room requirements before booking.
What this is
How might we meet difficult experiences with more patience and compassion? This retreat explores a Buddhist approach to working with adversity, using teachings and guided meditation to reflect on the way we respond to life’s challenges. The setting is Kailash International Retreat Centre above Törbel, with accommodation and meals on site.
