Sowing Seeds: Native Plants and Art in Inglewood
Explore California native plants through seed germination, transplanting and cyanotype art with Crenshaw Dairy Mart.
Why it caught our eye
Moving from seed to image brings ecological learning and creative exploration together, with young people and their families at the centre.
About this experience
Follow the life of a California native plant from seed towards harvest, with your hands and curiosity leading the way. Crenshaw Dairy Mart, Liberated Learning Community and Metabolic Studio bring young people and families together for an outdoor workshop that connects local ecology with making art.
What you can expect
Try seed germination and transplanting while learning about native plants in the local ecosystem, their traditional uses and their role in regenerating soil. Then explore a different way of working with plants through a mini cyanotype activity, a form of blue printmaking using light.
Good to know before you go
The workshop is free and centres on ages 6–18; parents and families are welcome. RSVP through Eventbrite, but confirmation does not guarantee entry. There are 20 places, admitted first come, first served, so arrive early. The activities are outdoors, with no stairs and ADA-accessible bathrooms. Hats and sunscreen are encouraged. Street parking is usually available on Crenshaw Boulevard; check the signs. Carpooling and rideshares are encouraged.
