Monthly Breath & Mantra Singing
A monthly hour of breath, voice, silence and simple mantra singing in Bern, with no singing experience required.
Why it caught our eye
This is not a singing class in disguise. The voice is used as a way to feel the body, notice resonance and settle into shared presence. The invitation is unusually gentle: there is no pressure to sound a certain way, only curiosity about breath, vibration and what changes when people voice simple mantras together.
What you can expect
The session begins with vowel tones, humming and consonants to explore resonance, direction and presence. After seated silence, the group sings simple mantras in call and response and together, sometimes accompanied by harmonium. The class is taught in German by Melanie Nohr.
Voice without performance
Vowels, humming and consonants are used to sense resonance in the body before the group moves into silence and simple shared mantras. How the voice sounds is not the point.
Good to know before you go
No previous knowledge is required and the emphasis is on experience, not vocal quality. The organiser also describes the practice as especially suitable during pregnancy. Upcoming sessions are 17 August, 14 September, 19 October and 16 November 2026, from 20:00 to 21:00. A single session costs CHF 25. Keep breath and voice work comfortable, pause if you feel dizzy or strained, and tell the teacher about any relevant health or pregnancy considerations. DEVI is EMR-certified, and classes centred on the breath can qualify for partial reimbursement through Swiss supplementary health insurance. Ask the studio whether this class qualifies before you book.
