Bhakti Singing Circle at be:life, Zürich
The same devotional singing circle held at be:life on Klosbachstrasse, led by Flavia Ghidossi and Zoe Rüegg, with live accompaniment and songs drawn from several traditions. It runs on donation and welcomes people who have never sung in a group before.
Why it caught our eye
What makes this circle stand out is how little it asks of you beforehand. There is no part to learn and nothing to prepare; the songs are taught in the room and carried by live instruments. It feels like a good choice for someone drawn to chanting or kirtan who would rather start somewhere warm and small than at a large event.
What you can expect
An evening of group singing with mantras and medicine songs in Sanskrit, English, Spanish and German, accompanied live on guitar, harmonium, shruti box, drum and rattle. The facilitators describe every circle as a one-off, shaped by the voices present and by any songs participants bring with them.
Good to know before you go
Wednesday 9 September, 19:00 to 20:00, at be:life, Klosbachstrasse 3, 8032 Zürich. The circle is offered on donation. No previous singing experience is needed, and you are welcome to bring your own instrument or a song request. Songs are sung in Sanskrit, English, Spanish and German.
