Chanoyu: Japanese Tea Ceremony at the Table
A table-seated introduction to chanoyu, with guided matcha preparation in New York's East Village.
Why it caught our eye
The table-seated format removes the need to kneel while keeping the deliberate movements, shared bowl of matcha and moments of silence that give chanoyu its reflective quality.
What you can expect
Tea master Yoshitsugu Nagano demonstrates the movements and guides each guest as they whisk a bowl of matcha. The class is practical and beginner-friendly, with time to notice the utensils, rhythm and etiquette of the ceremony.
Good to know before you go
All materials are included, no previous experience is needed and ordinary clothing is welcome. Registration closes two hours before the session. Cancellations are refundable until 72 hours before; the Eventbrite route lists no refunds. Choose the booking route whose terms you accept.
