Outdoor Yoga by the Richard Wagner Museum, Lucerne

A weekly outdoor Hatha Yoga class on the lawn behind the Richard Wagner Museum, on the shore of Lake Lucerne, on Wednesday evenings from 18:05 to 19:15. Six sessions remain this summer, running to 23 September. The class is taught in German by Freilicht-Yoga and goes ahead only in dry weather.

Why it caught our eye

What makes this class stand out is that it happens outdoors on the grass behind the museum, with the lake on one side and the park around you, and the evening light changing while you move. It feels like a good choice for someone who would rather practise in the open air than in a studio after work, and who does not mind that a wet Wednesday simply means no class that week.

What you can expect

Each session runs for seventy minutes and follows a Hatha flow: linked postures at a steady pace, warming through the body and settling towards the end, closing with a period of rest. Practising on grass means uneven ground and whatever the evening happens to be doing, so it asks a little more balance than a studio floor. The air by the lake cools quickly once you stop moving.

Good to know before you go

Sessions run on Wednesday evenings from 18:05 to 19:15 on the lawn behind the Richard Wagner Museum, Richard-Wagner-Weg 27, 6005 Lucerne. Six dates remain: 19 and 26 August, then 2, 9, 16 and 23 September 2026. The evening class is CHF 26 for a seventy-minute session. Freilicht-Yoga also runs shorter sixty-minute morning classes at CHF 24, which are a separate series at different times. Payment is made at the start of the lesson by Twint or in exact cash, and reductions are available with a subscription and for students and jobseekers. Bring a yoga mat and a blanket or wrap for the closing rest. The class is held in German and takes place only in dry weather, so it is worth checking the event page before setting out if the sky looks uncertain.
